We love chilly, cold weather. It’s perfect to curl up
with a book and stay cozy by the fire. Why not make some delicious Chilly Day Chili.
It just so happens that the co-founder of däv has won a
prize or two with her chili. Here is her recipe – enjoy!!
Kerri’s Chilly Day Chili
Ingredients:
-3 large cans of diced tomatoes
-1 large can of tomato sauce
-2 cans of kidney beans, drained
-3 large onions chopped
-2 cloves of garlic chopped
-1 can of corn, drained
-1/2 cup of chili powder
-1/4 cup of paprika
-1 tablespoon of fresh oregano
-1 teaspoon of crushed red pepper, 2 tablespoons if you're sassy!
-2 lbs of lean ground turkey
-1 package of spicy or mild chicken sausage, chopped
-1/2 cup of olive oil
-2 cups of red wine
Fixins
1 large container of low fat sour cream, avocados, shredded
cheese, green onions, tortilla chips
Step One
Get out a large pot and a sauté pan. Saute the turkey meat,
drain it and set it aside.
Step Two
Add the olive oil to the big pot. Saute the onion and
sausage in the oil. Add some red wine after the onions start to caramelize. Continue
to sauté and add wine until the mixture starts to liquefy. (Tip: this step is a
wonderful, savory base for any sauce or stew.)
Step Three
Add all remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Turn to
low and let cook for 2 to 4 hours.
Serving
Set out your fixins in a ‘chili bar.’ Your friends and
family will love trying the different toppings. Add some jalapeno cornbread to
make the dinner complete.
